Hi, once in a while I have a problem when Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit is booting in my laptop.
About once in 10 ( ten ) times the boot process just stops in the middle, goes to a blank black screen, doing nothing,
so I have to hard power-cycle my laptop to fix the problem; then usually boots fine for another few times. It's become very annoying.
What can be the reason for such a strange issue, has anybody experienced this ?
Thanks

EDIT: After some recent research I found out that this issue is caused by the lack of drivers for the on board Intel video chips. Things that helped were the removal of compiz and compiz-core.
