Install on an hp laptop

I have an HP laptop with no internal cd drive, and I tried installing linux to an 80GB unused part of my harddrive. I tried using a usb external cd drive and a usb flash drive and both give me this message. Does anyone know what the problem is? I'm not a computer expert.

Maybe I should add that I was installing ubuntu 9.04 64 bit desktop edition.

Sorry for an obvious question, but do you know for a fact that your HP laptop has a 64-bit CPU? Asking because you mention no model number and not all HP laptops are 64-bit.
