That's the guys computer. I'm trying to help him over IRC. I guided him through the installer, Guided and Manuel partitioning. Tried Gparted, and partman from the live disc. Everytime he got this error.

Input/output error during read on /dev/sda

He just had vista on it and it was working fine. Any ideas? Driver Issue maybe?

Is s/he trying to do single boot or dual boot?

Did he/she test the LiveCD?

If trying to dual boot, they can make the NTFS partition smaller using device manager.

Single boot, tested CD. Old partitions are long gone. The partition programs broke it up into sectoins, but failed to actually format them. He just told me he was getting blue screeens before he decided to install ubuntu. Maybe it was a HD problem.

That is possible. If so I hope he got the warranty for that price.

He may need to download and burn the GParted CD.

remind me to never go to amazon.com. The OP could have gotten multiple machines for that price.
