Hi and welcome, CairoDock (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/CairoDock)

It is compatible with Compiz-Fusion, Beryl, Compiz and Xcompmgr, but it can also run without a composite manager (using fake transparency). Cairo-Dock can run under GNOME, KDE and XFCE.

check graphic driver? if it's OK
http://www.cairo-dock.org/ww_page.php?p=First%20Steps&lang=en#3-For%20Gnome
For Gnome
Menu : System> Preferences> Sessions> Select the tab "Startup Programs> Add
Enter the commands for the program: cairo-dock -o (with OpenGL) or cairo-dock -c (without OpenGL)
#cairo-dock -c // it's working to me.

if your using cairo dock 2 look under the background tab
for repeat image as patteren to fill background and put a check
on that if your using just cairo dock 1 just look for repeat
image as patteren to fill background I'm not sure were it is in
cairo dock 1.You may or may not have to reboot i can't remember.
