I have read many tutorials on getting updated versions of what ever program you want in ubuntu as ubuntu's update policy won't let them do any updates apart from minor security updates, most of these methods are not very user friendly and I never had much luck with them, of course the network I am on may have something to do with it, but that's another story. Anywho I found that if you install a program called ubuntu-tweak it has a section that allows you to easily add new repos and gpg keys in order to update software like open office and vlc. it is super easy and it also allows you to install the latest native build google chrome, I have been using it and it seems stable and it works and looks just like it's windows counter part including the tabs occupying the title bar. It has more in common with the beta of chrome 3 on windows than chrome 2 including support for themes.

try it out and go thank the guy who made this cool piece of software.
