I am running ubuntu 9.04 and need help resolving an issue with the sound. Sound has worked on my laptop and more or less when I booted it up the next day the sound had a crackle sound kinda sounds like your listening to Rice Krispies after you pour the milk...lol. But the sound works.. When I play music I get a crackling sound that sounds like the music but doesn't play properly. It also does this for the ubuntu start up sound. I do not know whats wrong. Sound has always worked on my laptop and when I boot to the live CD I get sound perfectly. My system is fully updated. Any help would be great!

hmm pro-tip: wait one day longer than your "Ok I can't solve this lets ask the interwebz" Turns out my PCM was at 0%. So if anyone else has this problem check System -> Preferences -> Volume Control
