I usually connect via ethernet connection to a router which is in turn connected by cable to a router/ADSL modem. On the rare occasions that I use my gear's wireless capabilities I have WPA2 turned on.

Wired on all home machines. When on the move, I try my darndest to get a secure WPA2 point. WEP is a joke, and wpa with a small enough passphrase can be even worse.

i actually do use my own connection but when it goes out the neighbors are vulnerable to a little bit of intrusion. WEP just doesn't work people!

Have you managed to get your brain to connect to the internet via WPA2? I can't seem to get it working.

I`m hardwired into the main router>>modem with my Desktop but the laptops/kids machines all currently use a 2nd router acting as a wireless access point.
I eventually had all the relevant rooms in our previous house wired for internet but the WAF issues prevented a repeat of that this time round unfortunately, so..... WPA2 it is:-s

You're hardwired into the main router?

Where do you plug the cable in?

I connect with a WPA2, with a really strong password "AwŁ1jm*l/pTrk" Nobody could possibly crack that. I do have difficulty remembering it though.

All you would need to do now is Copy/Paste from here.5 seconds Max;)
That`s if you can find the signal in question of course.

I connect through an unsecured network on my desktop with a wireless card. The house laptop only seems to accept unsecured?? However on one occasion some dude was in a car outside our house using his laptop and our network was showing an extra Mac address I added security.

3 ways:
1. through my wireless router (wep still.... my router is crap) (connencted to bell canada internet which, in my area is totally unreliable, so i don't get a change to use it a lot)
2. rogers 3G (only when on the road / travelling)
3. When all else fails, aircrack into my neighbors wireless.

and even if the neighbors find some way to crack in, all theyid see is this:

Wired for my desktop systems, MAC filtered WPA2 for my laptop/mobile devices. Although after looking at that link carlee posted, I'm wondering if I should connect another wireless ap as a honey pot, and hide the SSID of my current one... :P

No landline where I live, so I use a hsdpa usb modem or a 3g cellphone, whichever has got credit. I used to use a neighbour's unsecured wireless occaisionally, but the sod went and wpa'd it... :(

Too bad this isn't multi-option.

I personally use a hardwire connection, but most of the other computers in my house use WPA2-Personal.

Hardwired, wireless networks are to unreliable, espetily in an old house with thick stone walls;)

Anyone using WEP, don't its horribly insecure, switch to WPA PSK upgrade your hardware if necessary (or switch to wired, more reliable and 99.9% secure). :)

Cable modem provides to wireless router. Wireless router has no password for network, but does use MAC address filtering. Yes, MAC addresses can be spoofed, but not many people know what a MAC address is, let alone how to spoof one. Router provides to wireless cards. PowerBook G4 picks up wireless internet, passes it from Airport to eth0. Dinosaur Linux Box receives PowerBook's internet on eth0, essentially using the PowerBook as a router.

I probably shouldn't have told you all of that. *Becomes paranoid* :|

WEP / WPA etc aren't really methods of accessing the Internet, they're encryption techniques.

Anyway I'll stop being a smart a** :)

I use a 3G dongle. It's not bad, speed could be better but overall not too bad.

And I'm not sure that discussing cracking people's wireless connections is such a good idea.... just saying! :P

Well linux was made by a bunch of scrubby hackers was it not? They wouldn't put it in the repos if it didn't serve some sort of purpose. You could use if if you forgot your own passcode and didn't want to hard reset.
