View Full Version : [ubuntu] Debugging install issues

Using the regular install CD to install Ubuntu (choosing Install option in the first menu), the PC freezes somewhere between steps 4 and 5 of the questions it asks the user.

Is there some way I could enable diagnostics to find out what is happening? For example, is it possible to open a debug window that shows what program is being run during the install process? I could then look at that window to see what was the last program that was started before the PC froze. I could use then that information to file a bug report.

Thanks,
António

I don’t think the age of my PC is a factor. Jaunty installs fine, Karmic doesn’t. There is no doubt a bug in karmic. My question is generic in that it applies to both Jaunty and Karmic, as the install program did not change much: how to gather diagnostics?

I read somewhere that there is a program called ubiquity that runs during installation. I wonder if it has diagnostics.

Thanks,
António
