few quick questions,

1. do you have the disks (or usb) of ubuntu?
2. do you know how to handle partitions?

A good place to start. Just go through the menu on the left, one by one, and you will learn a great deal about ubuntu and how to do most things you need to know at this stage.

Yes, I know, but he has windows already, so can go to that website and learn about ubuntu, everything from how to download and burn the CD, to installing and just about everything else. Have a look at that site yourself and you will see why I suggested it.

I'm in IT myself so in other words, RTFM is what you mean?

I think what he means is that psycocats is probably the best manual. The author has done a great job of answering a beginners questiona before he asks them. It really is the place to start.
