media server for jaunty

so just like the windows media player could be a media server to the ps3 to enable you to share media from the computer to the ps3...well i want to know if there is something like that for ubuntu!!! i have heard of mediatomb but how stable is it?

I'm currently testing mediatomb now in a virtual machine.

Without having looked at it in depth, it seems pretty good and intuitive. I'm making some silly mistakes (eg. moving audio tracks and wondering why aren't showing up when automatic directory scanning is turned off).

Totem seems to have trouble sometimes detecting mediatomb, and has to be restarted.

I like that you configure it through a web browser on a client machine. I'm not too keen that you can browse the entire filesystem through it, however.

EDIT: I also seem to get a warning when testing on Vista through ie.
