View Full Version : [ubuntu] System sounds in Ubuntu 9.04

I am quite new in Linux world, so I am not very smart in configuring it. In my Ubuntu I have a problem with sound. Genearally I can hear only a login sound but no any other. There is no sound when an email comes, when I empty the trash or during logout. Applications like Totem or Rhytmbox work OK. Also I have set my own sounds in sound preferences. I can play sound files manually but they simply don't work when they should. I have Pulseaudio and Alsa installed, nothing is muted down.
I have searched in several places. Some people claim taht it is something connected with libcanberra but I don't konw if it is true. I have simple Realtek integrated sound card and I am using Gnome.
Any help appreciable :-)

In your Sound Preferences, in the Sounds tab, do you have "Play alerts and sound effects" enabled?
