It seems Novell people want to see Linux take off. What they will be offering in NLD10:

- MP3 out of the box
- F-Spot integration (publishing, managing photos)
- iPod integration (Banshee)
- Software for translating Visual Basic macros in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet documents into their equivalent in StarBasic
- XGL?

If what they promise is true, this distro is gonna rock hard.

Well, if they're basing it on SuSE 10 they won't be doing a lot for Linux. SuSE 10 has a hardware config error which causes the install to hang at the hardware detection stage on some computers which doesn't look to be solved. Personally I think SuSE 10 is misreading the graphics card because it freezes when the graphics card is detected. I think I posted elsewhere that I have not had a relatively bug free version of SuSE since 8.2 and it was the attempted install of SuSE 10 which prompted me to look elsewhere whereupon I found Ubuntu on the DVD with Linux Magazine.

Whether it's Novell 10 or SuSE 10, look elsewhere!

This is good news. The more linux gets recognised on the desktop, the more it will benefit other Distros. The competition is not Novell, it is Microsoft and Apple.

I like the way that Novell opensourced their multimedia player. They are a good company, imho.
