So I'm on a bit of an 80s thing at the moment with my film-watching. All the typical 80s goodness such as back to the future, robocop, terminator, karate kid, short circuit, flight of the navigator, etc. The question is, can any of you guys suggest any more I should be adding to the list for my 80s fix?

All the John Hughes movies (he recently died, unfortunately), like Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Vacation, etc. etc.

Ah Blade Runner, yep, gotta do that, one of my favourites (incidentally the adventure game based on it was fantastic). I never got round to the John Hughes films so I'll have to grab those soon as possible and try them out :)

Love some of the 80s films...

Beverley Hills Cops 1&2 (Eddie Murphy's funny, if you don't remember)
Lethal Weapon 1-3 (classic action comedy)
Die Hard (one-liner action)

Looking at that list, looks like the 80s was just full of sequels and triquels?

Damn how could I forget Uncle Buck! Damn I love that film! Total Recall definitely goes on the list and I'll have to dig out my top gun dvd too.

Does anyone else notice that they got away with a lot more back then than they do these days in terms of gratuitous sex, violence and bad language?

Beverly Hills Cop 1 and 2 were genius. 3 wasn't! Die Hard and Lethal Weapon are definitely going on the list. Damn the school will be annoyed when I kill their internet connection....

Agreed. 3 was completely unrelated to the 2 original films.

Top Gun is the quintessential 80s film though. Never ages either... the opening states it is set in the Indian Ocean Present Day

Mookbarked :) Gracius senorita, a most excellent contribution (which reminds me.. Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures.. trashy but great fun).

Taps (Timoty Hutton, Sean Penn, Tom Cruise) Drama about students at a military school taking over the campus...

The Outsiders of course....(can't beleive nobodu mentioned it) A veritable who's who of young Hollywood at the Time... C. Thomas Howell, Ralph Macchio, Patrick Sweazy, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez and Matt Dillon all give stellar performances and it's a true classic of any decade.

Well if its a movie about the 80's then American Psycho is great as is the Wedding singer.

I'm also fairly outraged that Ghostbusters didn't appear in this thread until the third page, especially since Caddyshack's been mentioned. The two sort of go hand-in-hand in my mind.

Anyway, the below are my favourite movies released in the '80s. They are not as "zeitgeist" as some of the other movies mentioned already, and really could have been released anytime, but are nonetheless close to my heart.

-Stripes
-Planes, Trains and Automobiles
-The Man With Two Brains
-The Jerk
-Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid
-Top Secret
-Naked Gun
-Amazon Women on the Moon (perhaps the only sketch-comedy movie that matters after Kentucky Fried Movie).
-Fletch
-Twins
-Of course, the three National Lampoon Vacation movies.
-Three Amigos
