View Full Version : Know Any Good, Cheap Webhosting?

Does anyone know of a (preferably Ubuntu based, for kicks & familiarity) hosting service that's cheap (i.e. within 6 CAD - that's 5.25USD/4.36EUR) with at least the following:
200-300MB of space
PHP5
MySQL
Python
The ability to create cronjobs

Most hosts I've found tend to offer too much power for too much money or too little power (or the wrong powers) for around the right price. I'd love to hear of free hosting, but absolutely nothing ad-supported.

Thanks!

Is the price you want to pay per-month? Per year? Per week? Would help.

I can reccomend www.k1z.co.uk - They offer some competative packages, and are willing to talk to you about a custom package. They do everything you need except the python bit.

Price per month. The best deal I could find was in Australia for something like 25AUD/yr, but it didn't do everything I needed. I'm trying to create a class website, and my university's Centre for the Environment's servers are all maxed out. I'm using python to run Planet Planet, and I'd also like to learn python, so that's pretty important to me. Thanks for the response though, Ciaran.

For two good UK Linux OS based webhosts id recommend the following:

http://tsohost.co.uk/ & http://mchosting.co.uk/

Also, you might want to look into Krystal Hosting, they're UK based company wise but their actual servers are based in Texas, doesnt mean you'll get any difference in speed or anything but i just thought id let you know.

Http://www.fasthosts.co.uk. Not with Ubuntu though, mostly fedora and red hat I think. I rent a server from them for 88 a month inc. VAT.

Whats the stability and uptime like with that host? Also their customer support and what not good?

Can't answer that question related to virtual hosting because I have a dedicated server. The network is fast and reliable and on the few occasions I've emailed for support they've ansered in a couple of hours. If you're in the U.K. you're also able to phone them but I've never done that. The server I have has been up now for over four months without a hitch - I suppose I should really do a reboot. The only problem is that you only get a Matrix Control Panel which is pretty basic.

Hi, just wanted to say I've found a pretty good one. I asked an old friend of mine, and he said familywebhosting.ca is good. It took me about an hour to get an account (and it's all old fashioned, with paypal, e-mails and everything), but the set up worked pretty well. And they've been pretty awesome, even though it's been overnight Eastern time, and I think they might be on Canada's east coast (where it's an hour later).
