Curious about the Lenovo and Samsung NVDIA ION release planned for October (to coincide with the Windows 7 release -- in case anyone cares). With the S12 Lenovo and Intel processor -- anyone have any ideas if there will compatible Linux Drivers and will Moblin be able to run on this machine?

I'm much more interested in seeing ARM netbooks going on sale.

As for ION drivers, that's done already, the Acer Revo net-top has the ION and runs Linux.

Moblin right now is only built to work with Intel graphics, but you shouldn't have any Ion-specific problems with mainstream distributions.

I'd like to see what AMD/ATI has in store to counter ION. I'm surprised they haven't put out a new mobile chipset for 2009 yet.

Well the ION is made for the Intel Atom and ATI/AMD don't make chipsets for Intel CPUs.

He wonders if AMD/ATI will make their own chipset.

Anywho, It's pretty dang cool.

The Ion platform is very interesting, but it is too expensive.
We need more players for both CPU and GPU in the netbook market.

Second that! I'm sooo wanting to get anotehr netbook right now, but the sweet spot that ARM will hit will be awesome... including Full 1020p HD playback when paired with certain chipsets.

ION will be abserdly more expensive. Won't be worth the money, because intel won't sell the atom to Nvidia for a decent price. The cheapest way to get it is to buy it with intel graphics. Buying it without a graphics processor is more expensive than with the intel.

+1. This seems like the right direction for portable devices.

I've heard of no plans from anyone about ARM and netbooks. Anyone else hear any rumors on such?

There were some at ECS. They're not rumors. They're already being built. I don't recall the details, though.

Done (http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/06/medion-rolls-out-amd-based-akoya-mini-e1312-netbook/), not sure about it's Linuxability, but at least it has a decent screen res.

I'm really looking forward to Ion netbooks.

Why are people saying they will be too expensive? I haven't heard anything about Ion pricing yet.
