I have updated the BIOS of my ThinkPad X61s using the provided tools under windows. Once I restarted the system, after the BIOS' splash screen all I saw was:
GRUB
Not very promising.
In order to fix the issue I reinstalled the GRUB alone.
I cannot find the post I used, but the following one does essentially the same: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=24113#5
The only difference, I used indeed
setup (hd0)
rather then the suggested option.
