Theirs an application for windows called WinRoll (http://www.palma.com.au/winroll/) that enables you to do just that, well I was wondering is it possible to do on Linux Ubuntu, and if so how???

yup.

I have mine set like that... but I don't remember where the option is....

System- preferences- window something maybe?

I found it by chance.

A general rule of thumb- if there is ANYTHING you can do in windows or osx with regards to winow animations or effects, there's a better than good chance you can do it in ubuntu also, and maybe even better.

Pretty much a standard feature of every Linux window manager since the first days of graphical desktops.. :D

Just go to System/Preferences/Windows and set the "Titlebar Action" to "Roll Up".

edit: it's also possible to do this with mouse wheel, which I think is even smoother than the doubleclick. To do that press Alt-F2 and run "gconf-editor", browse to apps/gwd and set the "mouse_wheel_action" to "shade". If you use Emerald then you'll find the setting in Emerald Theme Manager.
