Which window manager do you prefer? I'm looking into trying out other WM and trying to find out who likes what.

So I take it fluxbox isn't to popular with this crowd? I may still give it a whirl to see if I can't get the hang of it

I guess most people in here use/prefer Gnome, since that is the Ubuntu default.

Me? I'm using KDE.

Gnome. If not, I would probably be using fluxbox.

KDE, after 10 minutes of turning off eyecandy and reducing font sizes it beats the crap out of Gnome when it comes to just about everything. Lightweight? Hey, I have a modern computer why not use it?

I tried KDE on another distro and liked it but I switched to Ubuntu and converted it to Xubuntu. I found XFCE much faster on my old Celeron 466. I haven't tried KDE on it yet, maybe soon though. Options are always nice.

i've tried a bunch of them. right now, 9wm is my favorite. kde, gnome and even xfce were slow on my ancient desktop. you could go into synaptic, do a search for 'wm' and just try everything that looks like a window manager.

KDE is not a window manager. Neither is Gnome.

I use openbox as my window manager in gnome because I dislike Metacity and openbox lets me have an awesome desktop right-click menu. Here's a screenshot:

I use Gnome with KDE's window manager.

A desktop enviroment (Gnome, KDE, XFCE) and a window manager (Metacity, Kwin, Openbox, Fluxbox, etc.) are not the same thing.
