Can't connect to internet...Gateway shows 0.0.0.0

Hi all you. I'm really new to Ubuntu and Linux. I have recently installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my desktop after request. I've done a dual boot with Windows Vista business. My problem is that i can't connect to the internet via Ubuntu, while my connection with Vista seems to be fine. When i configured my eth0 manually it shows my gateway as 0.0.0.0 although I have entered it. Please help me someone, cause I really want to switch from Windows and become part of the Ubuntu community.

When i configured my eth0 manually it shows my gateway as 0.0.0.0 although I have entered it. Did you use /etc/network/interfaces for manual configuration - or Network Manager? It took me a couple of trys using [TAB]'s, [ENTER]'s , and [arrows], to get it to take... don't remember what the secret was.
