View Full Version : [ubuntu] Can't install or run Ubuntu from live CD with Acer Aspire One AOA150 (kernel panic)

I tried installing Ubuntu 8.04.3 LTS today on my Acer Aspire One AOA150. When I ran Ubuntu without install or "check cd for defects", I got a bunch of messages and a kernel panic when it tried loading the linux kernel.

Here's a screen cap:

Please let me know what's causing these errors and how to fix it. Thank you!

Have you completed the disk check?

What speed did you burn the ISO? Should be burning at 4x or slower.

What are your system specs?

Is it possible you have 64-bit when you may need 32-bit? Or vice versa?

This is a netbook (Intel Atom Processor 1.6ghz with 1GB of ram). I burned the disc at 10x and I've already used the disc on another PC with no problems and ran a disc check. I am using 32 bit.

I appreciate the concern.... but none of this info I just gave has anything to do with the issue. I can't even run a disc check because it won't load the kernel.:P

Sure it does, now I know you have a netbook. I hope this will help.

Have you tried the Ubuntu Netbook Remix (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-netbook)? Might be the cure.

I plan to try that as a very last option. Why can't the regular Ubuntu 8.04.3 run on the netbook though (why all the errors)?

I have no clue. I've never used a netbook, so I don't know what's so different that the full versions don't work. I only know that I have never had the kernel problem and I have installed 8.04, 9.04, and 9.10 on many systems without any major issues.

I have helped a few people that even tried to install Xubuntu on their netbooks because it is lighter and they still had problems.

In this post (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1244942) the OP is using Jaunty 9.04 on his netbook, so maybe you can try that one, too.
