This issue has been happening on most any Linux distribution I've tried. After booting, my CRT monitor goes into sleep mode. I know the cause is that the refresh rate on the monitor is set to high, but I cannot turn it down if I don't know how to do it without being able to see. This began after I received a new video card, an EVGA nVidia GeForce 9500 GT, so I think that it causes the problem because it happens after the drivers are installed.

All I need is to know how to change the screen resolution or refresh rate of the monitor with a console, and any information to solve the problem for good would be much appreciated too.

I apologize if this has been answered somewhere else, but i looked around before posting.
