I am considering trying out a low-latency kernel as per:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=474670

Have you used a low-latency kernel?

Are the benefits(speed improvement) significant?

I would prefer not to use ubuntu-studio(which uses a low-latency kernel) since the system is going to be used for normal tasks(web browsing, office, light picture editing).

Your thoughts on low latency kernels?

I have compiled a low latency kernel in the past and didn't notice any speed change at all.

Low Latency kernels are not supposed to give the user a noticable difference in speed. They are for those that do Audio/Video work and don't want their audio to get messed up while recording.
