Grpahics with gcc

i have earlier used turbo c in windows for graphic programming.What is it's equivalent under gcc and linux.It must have support for setting each pixel,2d ,3d etc
cant get open gl tutorials as college firewall blocks all of them.Can someone help posting some beginner articles on blogs or here,regarding basic line drawing algos and how to compile and execute them.Can GTK be used for the same?
