I have a new mini laptop with Ubuntu so I am newbie.

Trying to set network connection to home WIFI.

I have the correct SSID code on wireless tab mode and MTU set correctly. For WPA WPA2 password I enter password and click OK. It rarely connects. When I go back to review the password has changed from my 9 digit password to some 30+ number gibberish password. I erase and change back to correct password click OK won't connect and it has changed back to 30+ number gibberish password again.

Any idea why it won't use the password I tell it to use?

It will detect my network just won't use password I tell it to use.

Thanks

It's storing your password correctly. For security reasons, though, it won't show you the password after the first time, just a hash of it. It's very sensible, because you don't want someone who borrows your laptop to be able to check a box and get your password.

I agree, though that the UI needs to be improved to make it clear that what you're seeing does not indicate that your pass wasn't correct. Your connection woes are not due to this problem.
