I am new to Ubuntu. I just installed 9.04 today and noticed it has only firefox 3.0.13. the new version is 3.5.2

I went to the FF site and downloaded the tar.bz2 file I put it in my documents folder for the time being. Where should I extract the files to, and how do I install the update?

before I downloaded the tar file i tried the synaptic package manager and had it download the 3.5 package but it didnt install it for some reason..

any help is appreciated, thanks!

I think synaptic did download and install FF3.5, it just doesn't make a launcher for it. Right click on the desktop and choose Create Launcher, in the dialog that appears give it the title Firefox 3.5, and in the command box type firefox-3.5. Now when you click on that FF3.5 will open instead of FF3. All your profile will have been copied to a new folder called firefox-3.5, a subfolder within the hidden folder in your home called .mozilla, so you will have all your bookmarks, cookies, etc etc.

Give it a try.
