I am having trouble installing a dell laser printer 1710. I have downloaded what I think is the correct driver, however it is a compressed file and needs to be extracted.

How do I get to that file to run the extraction command? The driver is in the temp folder.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Before you dive into extracting your download, you might want to try installing the printer via Ubuntu's printer utility under System > Administration > Printing. According to the OpenPrinting database site http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=Dell-1710, your printer is a rebranded Lexmark E232 and works fine with the HP Laserjet 5 driver. Hope this helps.
