i have an option in my wireless router about "hiding access control"
is this any good?
i mean does this provide an extra layer of protection?

It probably just makes your network invisible to the casual person. I'm sure a determined (or smart) person could find it though. A better protection would be WPA or WPA2 encryption, (not WEP, there's a hack to get around it)

The two that I can think of is: 1.) hiding the SSID of your wireless network and 2.) disabling remote administration.
For 1.) I have used wireless detection software that can see hidden SSID networks, so it can hide it form some but not all. Not as safe as it sounds, but may help.
For 2.) some routers allow the administrator to connect to the router from outside your network on a certain port and configure it as if they were actually inside your network. Disabling this is a good idea.
Those are my guesses. What router and model are you using?
