Hell everyone I have installed xubuntu 8.04 on a vectra vl desktop machine 9 gb hard drive I don't know what the memory size is
it previously had windows 2000 on the hard drive (no dual boot) was configured.

here is the problem when i turn on the machine it will go to the xubuntu boot screen and after it finishes the screen will go black I have tried 2 different monitors and ive went into the bios and changed everything back to the default settings but still nothing. I think the videos card is incompatible with linux because it was working with windows.

any suggestions ?

Hi and the amount of memory could help, have you tried booting into recovery mode and using the xfix option. Recovery mode is usually the second choice when booting from the grub. After selecting and completing xfix you should be given the option to boot normally.

xfix option didn't work

xfix option states

Xserver xorg postinst warning overwriting possibly configuring
file backup in /etc/x11 xorg. conf. 20090818014015
