Open a terminal:

gksudo nvidia-settings

See if you can reconfigure xorg.conf

So it seems an update may have come through or something because now nvida control panel has automatically set my monitor to 1440x900. The only problem is there are two black/blank sections on each side of the monitor and the display looks stretched. Can anyone help me please?
