View Full Version : [ubuntu] Hardware Update and Ram for 32 OS

Its time to upgrade the core of my fossilized system,
I'll get:
Asus M3N78 VM - Has a good onboard(am not a gamer) Graphic card ,can play even 1080p HD video.

AMD Phenom II X3 710 - It actually has 7.5Mb cache memory .What do u think of this? I mean the cache is too big compared to other Intel CPU's at the same price (around 100Euro) which is weird...

OCZ Reaper HPC 4GB(2x2GB) CL4 DDR2-800 - And here is the main issue, as we know 32 bit OS can handle up to 4 gigs of Ram but i always hear ppl saying that it can support only 3.2Gigs...

linux 32 bit can handle up to 4 gigs of ram which will usually equal out to 3.2 to 3.8 showing as usable. the rest goes to upper memory (like video). you will probally never miss it since you will be hard press to use a gig. but if it bothers you, you have two options.

1 use the 32bit server kernel
2 go to 64bit

should also say that this will not always give you 4 gig either, but in theory it should

Ye but 64bit has too many issues...and despite that i never managed to install an external application ,always was the i368 error...
