Ubuntu will copy files to Sansa e280 but I cannot play them!

This is a weird error. I connect my sansa e280 it connects immediately.

I drag and drop mp3 files. I can play the files from the mp3 player while its connected and see them on the drive.

If I click unmount and search my sansa e280 the new tracks are nowhere to be found.

Any ideas?

Is any more information / printouts needed to help?

Interestingly I can only connect in MTC mode. MSC will not connect at all.
