Hi folks-

I have a USB HP 1000 printer that I have plugged into an old Dell P3 box running Ubuntu 9.04.

The printer works fairly well, almost all of the time. I'm kinda' happy with that, sort of.

However, when I'm power down and power up the computer, or change things around, because I had to unplug stuff to open the box, then plug stuff in, the system autodetects what it thinks is a new printer, and sets up a printer driver for it.

Since I don't print all of the time, I may not notice it until someone tries to print something across my home network, and can't. Today, I deleted about 8 phantom printers from my print menu (I've been working on installing hardware, and had the box off and on several times).

I like the convenience of USB and it's plug and play, and all, but is there any way that I can turn autodetect off for the HP printer? Also, if it's possible to do that, will I need to dedicate one of my USB sockets specifically for the HP printer?

Thanks!!!
