My younger brother was given this for use at school:

He hates Windows (this one runs Vista) and wants to reformat with Ubuntu. I have done this before and it was pretty easy, so I agreed to do it for him. I downloaded the netbook edition of Ubuntu, checked the hash, wrote the image file on a 2GB usb drive, went to the BIOS, told the netbook to boot from the USB drive... Keeps giving me an invalid/corrupt error message. I went back and wiped the drive and started all over, completely rewrote it on there and... same problem. I have no idea how to fix this. Please help?

Don't bother with the netbook remix. It's kinda obsolete since 9.04 supports the EEE and netbooks screens are >10" Just opt for a light environment based distro and be on your merry way :)

Crunchbang might be worth a look?
