I think you must be more specific. Where did you encounter the term "Wot" ?

As MelDJ said, "WOT" ("Web of Trust") is a safe link indicator and an add on for both Firefox and IE. It's like McAfee's Site Advisor, Norton Safe Web, etc. except WOT is based on user ratings and a rating algorithm for a site.

WOT primarily will give you indications (a red donut for an unsafe site, and green donut for a safe site) next to links on a Google or Yahoo or Bing search (there may be other search engines it works with). It is also functional in Gmail.

As with any indicator like that, you must also apply common sense and good security practices. Though you can set WOT to block sites that are rated red, it is NOT a substitute for common sense and good security practices . . . it supplements those things.

Any of those safe link indicators are just more tools in your security arsenal.

My favorite line when it comes to security: "Ultimately, the only protection against phishing, forged Web pages, downloading malware, and other threats is the technology located between the user's ears."
