On two occassions now I have totally lost all sound in Ubuntu 9.04. A couple of months ago I was able to get it back by getting the ALSA drivers from a *fresh* kernel. However, this last time, that did not work.

I am almost certain this is caused by some update - however, I don't have a clue how to determine which update it might have been. Is it possible to find a log of updates and start deleting (would be in the last week) until the sound comes back? Or better yet, is there a likely suspect out there?

I have loaded LinuxMint for a couple of folks and I like the warning system they have on updates. In my opinon, there must be a category of updates out there I should not be loading in Ubuntu 9.04 on my computer.
