View Full Version : [ubuntu] Ubuntu doesn't see both ram sticks (2x 256MB)

Well, hello. :) An Ubuntu newbie here.

The last two days I gave it a try to revive an older machine:

MOBO, MSI somewhat. :) I don't have the documentation here at the time.
AMD Duron 1.20 GHz
2 x 256MB RAM (Kingston)
nVidia GeForce2, 64MB

I first installed Ubuntu 8.10, and then upgraded to 9.04. Yet, I faced a problem regarding RAM recognition.

To be more specific, the mech has 2 x 256MB RAM sticks. They are of very same type, and work just fine with Windows XP. However, Ubuntu recognizes only one stick, which gives me 256MB RAM only. Can somebody help me start to troubleshot this? :)

Alright, solved. It worked after I switched the places of RAM sticks.

Perhaps something gone loose when I placed the computer on the floor. I became suspicious of that after I noticed that even BIOS was not counting 512 but 256MB during startup.
