I am interested in making iconized taskbar, to save some space, something like the Windows 7 has (Previews would be awesome but i guess its impossible)

To show what i mean please see screenshot http://s48.radikal.ru/i122/0908/86/a04009abcb97.png, the question is how?

Previews impossible? With Linux, nothing is impossible. Install compizconfig-settings-manager. There's zillions of options in there.

As far as the iconized bar, you could get something like Avant Window Navigator. Personally, I hate the whole dock idea because it's a screen hog, but if it floats your boat, have at it.

Where the heck is preview in compiz? I am missing something, lot of settings there but can't find preview.

I will try Avant window navigator later but i have feeling this this is not exactly what i need, this is some sort of dock isn't it?

It's in the Extras section of the Compizconfig Settings Manager.

For an iconised window list, try DockbarX (https://launchpad.net/dockbar) from here (https://launchpad.net/~dockbar-main/+archive/ppa) (DockbarX has some features Dockbar lacks, and it's as stable). Install the .deb, then add it via "Add to panel".
Though it doesn't support previews (yet)...

You need to add it to your panel.

Click the panel you want to iconize, click 'add to panel...' then choose 'Dockbarx' from the list.

Just tried out dockbarx and I'm impressed so far. I really like how it's a standard GNOME panel applet and doesn't require compositing.

However, it doesn't seem to combine launcher and taskbar functions into a single icon like Win7. Hopefully this will be added in the future.

What happens if you remove the "Menu Bar" from the panel and replace it with "Main Menu".

Right click in the area of Applications Places System and then select "Remove from Panel".

Then right click the blank area of the panel and select "Add to Panel" and scroll down till you see "Main Menu". Click to select it and then click "Add to Panel".

What do you mean? I've used DockBarX for some time now, purely because it DOES do this.

Just launch the program first, then drag and drop the launcher icon onto DockBarX (you'll notice DockBarX has properly "seen" it when there's an arrow pointing where the launcher will appear).
Then a dialog box opens where you have to select the name of the program, if you already have it open you can just select it from the list.
