Hi,

I am running Ubuntu 9.04 on a dual boot machine with Windows XP Pro as the other OS, and have just bought a Lexmark C540n colour laser printer. The software that was supplied with it has a driver for Ubuntu 7.10, 8.04 and 8.04 LTS. Is the driver, although designated for an earlier version of Ubuntu, likely to function correctly with version 9.04?

If it will then would some kind person tell me how to install it. The file is called PPD-Files-LMACA.tar and I am not sure how to install things from .tar files.

I have already installed the Windows driver, which worked first time, but when I went to "System/Administration/Printing/New/Printer" in Ubuntu the system found the printer and, I thought, installed the driver but when I asked for a test page the printer just spewed out masses of blank pages and the only way I could stop it was by switching the printer off which resulted in a paper jam.

HELP!
