i upgraded my 7.10 to 8.04 LTS. i faced a few problems during upgradation. but now most of the things are working fine. except -

occasionally - like 60% of the time - when i am trying to boot - the following message is coming up:

Could not start the X
Server due to some internal error.
Please contact your sysem adminstrator
or check your syslog to diagnose.
In the meantime this display will be
disabled. Please restart GDM when the
problem is corrected"

after rebooting 2-3 times - the system is booting in. i tried to get in the recovery mode and run - xfix - but i get an error saying something like - cannot access xorg.conf.2009.... : read-only system. the error goes away fast. so cant type in the exact. but i tried to find the said file in etc/X11, it was not there. so does it mean - xfix cannot create this file as X11 is read-only.

what i find is funny that the problem is occuring at times, not always.

i am a absolute beginer - so may be i am asking something very obvious.

thanks in advance.
