install help

I have a sata hard drive
when i get to the prepare partition box
it comes up empty and everything
is all grayed out.
And if i try to go forward i get
a message saying
No root file system is defined
this is step 4 of 7

please someone i need help
i want to get this installed

Can you explain more in detail what you have done in the previous steps?

Also, tell us more about that harddrive: model, other operating system on it? harddrive size etc etc.

If it is hardware related, your harddrive settings in BIOS is also something which can help.
