Is it possible to synce a 2nd generation iPod touch with Ubuntu in any way on the system? I mean truly natively (not though WINE or VMware etc.)? When I plug mine in it shows up as a camera. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

It shows up as a camera on all systems (Windows included).

IIRC: Songbird syncs well with iPods, but last I heard, it had issues with the iPhone. I am not 100% sure if it will work or not.

As far as I know, there is no way to natively sync with any iPod Touch or iPhone in Linux, Songbird included.

The way I do it is I run Windows and iTunes *shudder* in VirtualBox and sync like that. Works quite well, just on the slow side.

Do you know if it is possible to run iTunes through Wine or VMware on Ubuntu?

Thanks for the link. I signed it and sent it on to others!

Actually, it would be a lot better if, instead of porting iTunes to Linux, they allowed people to add MP3s and other files to the iPod as a mass storage device, like EVERY OTHER MP3 PLAYER, instead of forcing people to use a third-rate resource-hogging piece of proprietary software.

Based on recent events...

There will never be an Apple iTunes for Linux. Apple ia actively writng code to lock out Linix for all it's "i" toys.

It's up to the Linux code experts to write the software for Apple.

You can in fact sync the iTouch in Ubuntu, but its a bit complicated, and you have to jailbreak it first. This page gives details about how to do it https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PortableDevices/iPhone#Syncing iPhones and iPods Touch w/ Firmware 2.x (I know it says iPhone but it also applies to the iTouch.
