in Karmic or maybe in backports

It's a problem endemic in a lot of fixed-release distros

with firefox there is another option. you can download a little script call ubuntuzilla and that will automatically keep you updated.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ubuntuzilla/files/ ----- this is the file

Or type

sudo apt-get install ubuntuzillait will prompt you for your login password enter that then it will download then you need to type in the following

ubuntuzilla.py -a install -p firefoxtype it in as it appears and you will be sweet.

better to point at the website, which contains instructions and everything:
http://ubuntuzilla.sourceforge.net

sudo apt-get install ubuntuzilla

ubuntuzilla is not in the repositories... so that won't work. gotta go to the website and download the .deb manually.
