I've been having this issue where after a while of running my computer, characters and icons on the screen will randomly disappear partially or completely, and performing any actions causes the glitches to jump around on the screen.
It always seems to happen when running Compiz, but there's no distinct amount of time after running my computer that it starts to act up. Sometimes I go for hours without errors, sometimes it happens within minutes. Disabling Compiz and shutting down all of my running applications does not fix it, I have to do a full restart of X.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit, kernel version 2.6.28-14. Hardware-wise, I have an Intel C2D E7200, 4GB of RAM, and a NVIDIA 8800GTX, with driver version 180.44 installed.
