Don't be judgmental and do your best to help everyone (even if their problems aren't really open-source related).

Don't be radical with your ideas and opinions, try to make everyone see why it's better to choose open-source over proprietary software and if they still don't like it or believe it, leave them be, don't "force" them to choose.

You should also be able to recognize there are areas/categories of software where the proprietary solutions often are better for the common user (for example, photoshop is liked for many users because of it's simplicity to do great things, even though many people know GIMP is as capable as PS, but more complicated to get some of the effects).

Know when to "ask for money" (if a job, fix, etc. requires way too much time to do, don't do it for free and if you're not able to do it, recommend your "client" a specialized company).

Accept anyone and everyone without exception, and embrace them with peace & love.

That way, you can't fail :)
