View Full Version : [ubuntu] Radeon Card Difficulties

Deep Thought
August 13th, 2009, 01:50 AM
I'm using a Radeon HD 3870 card in Ubuntu 9.04. Every time I try to load certain applications (movie player, certain system utilities etc.) my video card fan stops, and my system becomes highly unresponsive. Small spots of graphics corruption are also sometimes visible. After 5-10 minutes or a system reboot, the fan and computer run normally again.

I am running a DP45SG motherboard with a 2.66GHz processor and 4GB of ram.

I have tried both installing and rolling back the "ATI/AMD proprietary FGLRX graphics driver" found by the Hardware Drivers. I also tried using Envy, though I'm not sure if I did it correctly. I have also tried installing drivers from the ATI site, as well as browsing through the forums. None of these solutions have changed the situation, so for now I'm just trying to avoid using the programs which cause this problem.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.
