I have a perplexing problem. I had 9.04 installed and working properly with the following changes (removed f-spot and installed digikam along with its required kde stuff). I then downloaded jdk Java from synaptic...during it's install system went into a loop that I could not get out of...finally forced power off. Upon restart it said no OS existed! I reinstalled 9.04 from my CD, installed all the updates (135mb worth).except evolution update and xurunner 9.1 did not install (broken packages!) I tried to fix broken packages, etc. reinstall, etc. system would not restart.
I patiently reinstalled 9.04 again, this time not doing all the updates again at one time. I installed a few at a time sucessfully until I installed the kernel updates. After kernel update and system restart, it found disk segments?, directories, etc with errors...tried to let it fix, reboot, then could not fine home directory??? Any ideas????
Problem resolved...I had a hard disk failure. New D\drive...no more problem
