I do not think my hard drive is bad, just needs to be formatted so it can be read.

What is needed to get hard drive to be recognized?

what do you want to do?

this will show info about your drive:

sudo fdisk -l /dev/sda

Unless I read the log wrong (and maybe I did) ... it looks like you're running a Mac and you're trying to plugin an NTFS-formatted hard drive. Can Macs do that?
