I am trying to install Ubuntu from the CD I got from The Official Ubuntu Book, and I am getting errors.

ata1: softreset (device not found) and ata3: SRST (error-16)

also when i check the disc. for defects it gives me the same errors, I have tried disabling onboard SATA drives, but then I still get the SRST error any help?

my computer is a Compaq Presario SR2170NX

with a 9400gt geforce graphics card

and 512 MB of RAM

Sound Blaster Audigy SE sound card

and a 250GB Seagate SATA Harddrive

any help please.

The cd may be corrupted. Can you try it on another machine?

You could see if it will at least boot up to the opening menu, and if so, check it for errors.
