View Full Version : [ubuntu] Wireshark causes my system to Freeze

August 11th, 2009, 06:10 PM
I'm on Jaunty and just installed Wireshark (1.2.1) compiled from source.
I run Wireshark from the menu (as root) or use gksudo wireshark from command line.

When I click on the "List the available capture interfaces.." button a small window showing the various network interfaces appear, then my entire system freezes. Only way to get out of it is by doing a hard reset.

Any one knows what is going on?

BTW, I use a wireless adapter (Atheros) with a fixed IP address, though I also have a wired NIC that is not connected to anything.

I have checked all the system log files and i dont see anything that could indicate why the system crashed. I just see root running wireshark, then the next entry would be about the system restarting after I pressed the reset button.
