As some people might know I am disabled, in the progress of applying for early retirement my government has seen fit to send me to a job training facility to see if I am indeed as impaired in the workplace as is claimed by my specialist.

This is mostly boring exercises in Microsoft Word, but I decided to bring my netbook with Ubuntu on to attempt them in OpenOffice.. for the challenge.

However the most interesting thing isn't at all related to that, when I came here I noticed that a lot of the people were quietly talking about this "ubuntu" thing they had heard off or Linux. However nobody really had the guts or know how to try it out.

Luckily I had Ubuntu in my backpack, so as of today, I have showed the system off to several people and so far 4 people have gotten CDs from me and were very interested in trying it out on their own machines. Sure it means added tech support burden for me but I am happy to see a few new faces, especially since these are people who are mostly unfamiliar with computers as whole.

Some good has come out of these otherwise boring 4 weeks of torture.

That's very interesting. Looks like the news is filtering through that there are other desktop options available.
